Teen takes entrepreneur award with her childhood drink
05/27/09 08:43
One of only 30 students to win the Global Entrepreneur of the Year award, Vivian Chau is building her business around a drink she grew up with.
The drink, boba, or bubble tea is a milk tea containing tapioca pearls or jelly cubes, and originated in Taiwan in the 1980's. Vivian's product is the actual bottle container allowing the product to be kept for a long time.
Where did she get the idea to build her business? An entrepreneurship class taught by teacher Deborah Reinerio at San Leandro High School teaches students to learn the skills necessary to turn their ides into real world business ventures.
