Sacramento SEM Interview

By Interviewer at 05/24/08 13:09

Name of your website?

Sacramento SEM

Your name?

Adam Fowler

Your Location (city, etc)

Antelope

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Having learned SEO and marketing from my own website building and promotion I decided to share my knowledge with other small local businesses.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Intall-Molding.com is an all-inclusive resource for learning about finish carpentry. I launched it in December of 07'

How did you decide on a name for your website?

My focus is helping local Sacramento business owners with their search engine marketing (SEM).

So, SacramentoSEM.com was the natural choice for a name.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

There are many good marketing firms out there. In Sacramento in particular, EyeballFarm and American Web Services stand out as leaders right now with a handful of others. My focus as a single person company is to give individual attention to each client. With other firms, there is a good chance you may end up on the back burner.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To create a locally recognized authority site on Search Engine Marketing .

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I just got started with this venture, but it is going well. Client response has been very positive. I work long and hard, but I love it so it doesn't feel like work. Right now I am breaking even, and I think by years end I will be able to afford to hire some help.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would spend heavily on content creation, and local traditional advertising to gain mindshare.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Hire help from India of course!

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Good link building costs time or money. My budget for spending there has been more than expected.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Raising two young girls and building a business in an economic downturn while going to school

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Quality content building, and good old fashioned social interaction.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It really hasn't. I kind of knew what it would involve from the start, Though I do spend more time talking face to face with strangers about it than I would have thought.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I just started it a month ago(April 08'). I will run it until I sell it or it stops making sense to do so. But why would I want a popular site that makes lots of money? That sounds like too much work...

Why do they not make hot dog packs in the same quantity as hot dog buns?

Somebody please tell me. This has bothered me my entire life!

What is your website address?

Sacramento SEM
