Twitter has long been criticized for expanding exponentially without a clear commercial direction. Users, which include celebrities and prominent politicians, have been increasing by the minute, but it still has failed to capture a sector of the market and keep some profits. As of the moment, it's been relying on venture investments as it seems to have a lot of potential to make money.
Just recently, Twitter executives have announced that they are ready to modify the platform and make it more business-oriented in the near future. From what I hear, among Twitter's plans is to provide analyzation data for business users as early as the end of the year.
But aside from the potential tools that Twitter will provide, it will also have to improve itself in the customer service department. Online support has been somewhat poor, as it is nonexistent most of the time. It has suffered a lot of technical difficulties related to expansion, so it will have to make sure that its system will be more robust if it wants to appeal to the business community. It will also have to be more specific with its terms and conditions and less arbitrary.
So what is in it for entrepreneurs like you? Well, the greatest potential of Twitter here remains in branding and advertising. Twitter has become a very good venue for businesses to promote themselves and establish relationships with clients. In some cases, it is also a room for customers to tell the company their feedbacks and service issues. I, for example, told an Internet provider about my issues through Twitter. They were resolved immediately.
As I can see it, Twitter will most likely succeed at commercializing itself. Doubts are still high at this point in time, but I guess when the plans become more specific, the business community will understand the potential value of Twitter all the more. Twitter is just a very valuable resource that cannot be put to waste. It has to be utilized soon.
How about you? What kind of tools do you want Twitter to have?
