a9 web design Interview

By Interviewer at 05/17/08 20:53

Name of your website?

a9 web design

Your name?

Al Toman

Your Location (city, etc)

Swansboro

Please give us a short summary of your website?

I offer affordable professional web design and web site development for small businesses.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I have several web sites. This is only one platform for my web design services.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I launched my first web site in 1993. Naturally, it was about web site design. I thought that I was cool back then. Boy, was I wrong! Rather, over the years I have learned to become a cool professional.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I have several web sites. The name of this one was derived through a thorough process of examining the Web at the time. Desired domains were beginning to become more and more difficult to secure. I chose the best that fit what I wanted it to say.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I understand the small business entrepreneur and understand today's web design for small businesses. Mostly because I've been in business for decades and I've been there in starting up a business on the Internet. My work is W3C compliant, accessible, and regards Section 508 whenever possible.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My long term goal is to grow the service from being an independent freelance web design business to a large network of web designers, web marketers, and web promoters. Service as many clients world-wide as possible.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I invest too much into scripting and not enough into promotion. I have to learn to balance that out so that I can attain my long term goal.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I wouldn't change the site. The site is in development for as long as it is published. It's an on-going process with no ending until the day it is shut down. The site tomorrow will not be the same site that you see today. Naturally, it will contain much more content and information.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

It will not get really big really quickly. Therefore, I will be able to keep up with the demand. Gradual and calculated growth is important.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Promoting my own web site because I get too busy designing and promoting my clients web sites. But that's a good thing!

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Directories and Web page optimization are the two most successful methods for me. Social networking is yet to be determined.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Running my web site has not differed from my expectations.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I have many web sites. This domain was purchased in 2004. I will run it for as long as it takes to reach my goal that we discussed above or until I drop dead, which ever comes first.

What is the purpose of your web site?

The purpose of my web site is to provide small business entrepreneurs with the knowledge to work their web sites to work for them. My process is designed to create small business owners a web site that befits today's World Wide Web. Very few business web masters fully understand and therefore take advantage of a well planned web site.

What is your website address?
