Miscommunication with Your Office Mates

By Office Bull at 08/26/08 05:35

For the past few days, I've been dealing with a lot of problem with life. Oh well, that's pretty normal. Although this things are a bit different from what I've experience in the past, I still managed to live with it and somehow overcome them.

But yesterday my friend told me he has this serious problem with his officemates. He told me that his officemates are giving him a cold treatment. I know how hard it is to be treated that way, specially if you're just working together in a single office room.

He's pretty new in this call center company that he applied at. Actually it's just a part time job while he is waiting for his Visa to work abroad in the company her sister is working for.

But the new working environment is so called on him, especially now that he is being praised as a "equipped with high potential of being a telemarketer". I was laughing while he's telling me his story but then I figured he's serious about it.

He doesn't want to be labeled as a telemarketer because it's far from his dreams haha. He's a Chemical Engineering graduate, and being a call center agent is just a way for him to get out of boredom while waiting for his real job. He doesn't want to steal the limelight from his officemates so he's worried he's making a bad impression on them.

So I told him to ignore his officemates if he can't figure a way out of it. But I also told him he can make the first moves for the cold treatment to stop. Perhaps they are just experiencing the new-sheep syndrome, haha. They're not use to having him there in the office, but for sure in a matter of weeks things will be in good terms. Hope so.

For the mean time I advised him to take things normally and don't let the issues come into his nerves as it will affect his working behavior. Ignoring things at the moment will help him earn the impression of being a hardworker. I told him not to have a debate with his officemates because it will only make things worse. As what the famous line said, "Never argue with ignorant people. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."
