Your name?

Your Location (city, etc)

Please give us a short summary of your website?
Our website is hosted by Structured Web. It is a site about promoting our business of office automation equipment. We have the ability to prepare online proposals where once a client initiates us to bid on a contract or hardware, they can securely access their bid online with a password. There are multiple areas for the different department promotions and specials being run with a variety of equipment to browse through.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The desire to expose our company to potential new customers via people using search engines on the internet to find local Value Added Resellers (VAR). Achieve the ability to have online commerce.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
The site was launched in 1994. It's been hosted by the same company with the same name ever since, just with different content as our product changes.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It was suggested by Structured Web.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
It's different in the volume of detail on the products we sell to inform those who are looking for automation in their office. We have online proposals that are secure, where nobody without the password can access it. It's the same as far as what equipment might be offered.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
It is to stay with the company.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Structured Web's provided tools to make changes can be time intensive at times. We have found limited success lately in getting hits from places like Google.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We would like to try a site with less words and descriptions and more interactive flash. Have more bullets or links and less detailed information about each machine. We would like to provide a place on the site for drivers and software downloads. In general make the site so people would fill out a request or needs of theirs, in other words create the desire for that potential customer to contact us.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Doing search engine optimization with tools provided by sites like Google require, at times, special meta tags to be inserted on our site in order to work. Structured Web is restrictive with implementing this. Googles bot crawlers do have trouble crawling sites hosted by them sometimes as well.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Finding alternative hosting companies that allows the online proposals like Structured Web, requested by the sales department, yet does not have all the restrictions Structured Web has.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
SEO on Google, Yahoo and MSN by paying someone else to do it.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
The amount of contacts we get from website is well below expectation.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
14 years running and we don't have plans to be without a website of some kind.
