How to Keep Your Employees Happy

12/08/09 05:24

If you are an owner of a company, I am sure that you will realize that you should keep your employees happy if you want them to remain loyal and productive, but it is not a very easy task to accomplish. A lot has to be considered and accomplish just to achieve that low turnover rate among your employees.

For example, Nugget Market, a 10-store Northern California store, only has a turnover rate of around 12% for its 900-strong full-time employees. This is relatively unheard of in the grocery industry, where turnover rates are at around 20% and above. Company culture plays a vital role in this low turnover rate, in addition to the numerous benefits thrown at the employees, such as dance parties, field trips, instant giveaways, and lots of free food. If that is not enough to convince your employees to stay, then I do not know what is.

The key to making your employees happy is to make them feel important in your business. Sadly, this is not a priority among companies because most of them are focused on making money and a lot more money, but this is certainly the key to attaining it. Many people are saying that it is very expensive to advertise and recruit employees, but they do not realize that if they only knew how to take care of their labor forces, then recruitment wouldn't be such a costly activity.

But happiness does not end at throwing money, or throwing parties every now or then. Aside from those mentioned above, what is probably more important is the sense that they belong and that there is room for career growth in the company. Another is a flexible schedule.

If you want to know more about the miracle of Nugget Markets, you can check about it here.

Yes, unemployment is high and a lot of people really need some jobs right now, but without proper employee management, you'll just see those workers entering and quitting your posts as fast as you recruit.
