Designing Your Office: Good Office Colors

By Office Bull at 07/15/08 03:28

To start off with our office designing series, we will be discussing about choosing the right colors for offices. As much as possible we would like it to be brief and straight to the point. If you have questions, feel free to use our "Ask a Question" link on the side or simply leave a comment.

Different colors promote different moods. For every business establishment, different color patterns are used for different purposes. Home offices are affected by the colors. It may increase the productivity, promote a good working environment or otherwise.

Bright colors can stimulate a person's feeling. For some offices, bright colors may keep the employees awake and 'alive' but there is a big tendency for them to feel restless. Orange, red and yellows are examples of this. It is not recommended to color the majority of your home office with these colors, although they can be used as accents or highlights.

Some colors may depress you, your employees and even your clients. It has long been suggested that too much violets, uber dark blues, maroon and dark green have the tendency to depress people for long term exposure. It lowers the excitement and make people bored.

Black promotes privacy. But it also suggest an unhealthy working environment because offices must work hand in hand and be cooperative with one another. Choosing white as your primary may be a good thing but there are also disadvantages of using it. For instance, white can make your office appear larger. It makes the corners of your office wide. So it is advisable for small offices. However, white is the hardest to maintain because it is the one that get's dirty easily. Some clients may also look at your office as ordinary and unappealing.

Royal colors such as navy blue, peach, cream, aquamarine, royal red, emerald green and others can make your office look like royalty. But they have to be accented with good colors and proper lighting for them to become effective, otherwise they will just appear bland and dull.

Choosing the right combination for your office is the key for a successful and productive working environment. You have to be careful of what will be the primary color and what will be the accessory colors. It's all in the balancing and the right combination.
