Archive Of Old Albums

By Alt at 02/02/09 19:07

Recently I went to my grandparents' ancestral house to check it. No one's living there except for a keeper and once in a while my parents would ask one either one of us siblings to look and check if everything's doing fine. This time I was the one sent.

Almost all of the things inside the house are antique collections of my grandparents. They have those large archival cabinets and storages boxes of old musical records. I was quite amazed at their vast musical collection. Everything are in good condition. Their 1935 gramophone record player / phonograph even works perfectly.

I was a kid of the 80s and grew up in the music of the 90s. But I have a tremendous admiration of the classics of 30s to the 70s. Perhaps its because of my parents who both loved to sing. Everyday I will hear them sing great music from Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Bee Gees, Dusty Springfield, Bob Dylan and many others.

But the vast music collection of my grandparents exceeds the generations I grew up listening to. I found music records dating back to the 30s and 40s. They have jazz collection of Louis Armstrong during the 1920s. They even have records of Judy Garland in the 1939 hit Wizard of Oz.

Perhaps the most I love in the old collection were albums of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Otis Redding and Andy Williams. I personally like the Andy Williams songs.

And I think I will need to thank those reliable storage devices they used in order to keep the musical collection in good condition during all those years. There is a need for us to treasure these collection for we know they are the real treasure of my grandparents, of my family's roots.

Anyway, here is a 1964 video of the then young Andy Williams with his version of the epic song Moon River. Gawd, I love this song! I like the Nat King Cole version as well. Both of them can be so relaxing to listen to. How I wish artists of our time can be good just like them.
